What's Happening at Fort
Avenue?
Coming up...
The first Sunday night of this
October, the Cannon's will be hosting a cookout at
their house. Be sure to bring a friend!
An Adventurous Summer
The summer was packed with activities this year,
particularly for our youth.
For this year's Summer Camp at Camp
Bethel, we joined with three
other churches. About 30 youth, ages 10-18, participated in Bible
studies, athletics, crafts, singing, and other classes. The theme was
"MVP: Most Valuable Person," which reinforced God's teaching about each
person's importance to Him.
In July, the whole church took a hiking trip up Sharptop
Mountain. The hike was hard, but the view from the top was
amazing and well worth the walk. From Sharptop, a person can see
the splendor of God's creation from a perspective unlike any other.
The hike was followed by a cookout with a terrific meal.
The youth also took a camping trip in August to Smith
Mountain Lake. In addition to a great time at the lake's beach,
hiking through the woods, and making s'mores, they participated in
devotionals and prayer and fellowship together. Mark and Heather
did a terrific job of planning the trip, and next year, we all agreed
that we want to do it again!
In September, the McGhee's hosted a picnic on the first
Sunday night of the month. We ate sandwiches outdoors and enjoyed
each other's company. The McGhee's also coordinated contributions
and walkers for the Alzheimer's walk. The walk helped to promote
research in finding a cure to this menacing disease.
Welcome to Katlyn!
Katlyn Saville took on the job of Outreach Coordinator
in September. Katlyn will be coordinating activities, thinking of
new ways to promote the church in our community, and keeping up with the
bulletin. She will be working at the building mostly on Friday's
and Saturday's.
World Bible School
Continues
Each month, we continue to receive tests back from
avid World Bible School students. And each month, we seem to get
another dozen or so referrals. Many of our most devoted students
have come from the area jail system. The inmates have been
telling stories about the difference that Christ is making in their
lives and the meaning that they are finding from the studies. We
are thankful to be involved in people's lives in such a positive way.
May God continue to change lives!
Monthly Message
Each month, we will be posting one of Lee's sermons on
the site. The messages will often be printed in note form, not
necessarily written like a story that you would read in the newspaper.
With that disclaimer in mind, this month's featured message is, "The
Narrow Way." Click here
to read it!
